The ultimate irony?
Anti-war protests are rapidly gaining momentum worldwide, with demonstrations planned in 50+ US cities and dozens of other cities outside America to protest the continued occupation of Iraq and escalation of the war in Afghanistan, ordered by the winner of the 2010 Nobel prize for peace. And for what? (the day after)
Well he made a lot of the right noises (and his team of scriptwriters continue to do a good job of helping make him sound presidential) but then that's what got him elected. However, I still don't know what our objective is in Afghanistan other than to pull out, eventually. Are we there to find bin Laden? He's not there anymore. Are we there to fight Al Quaeda? They're not there anymore either. Are we there to prevent the influence of the Taliban? They are everywhere, waiting for us to leave. (We have the watches, they have the time.) Are we there to build a nation with a freely-elected central government? Already done, it's corrupt as hell and it's influence will never extend beyond the walls of the presidential palace in Kabul. So what the winner of the 2010 Nobel prize for peace said is this: "I'm going to tell our enemies how long they must lay low before they can resume where they left off before we arrived. In the meantime I'll feed a dozen American lives a week into the deathtrap for at least the next 18 months." I think really that the plan is to make sure Obama is out of office before Americans are subjected (again) to images of US helicopters taking off from the embassy rooftops as the gates below are assaulted. And for what?
In about two hours, the winner of the 2010 Nobel prize for peace will announce that he's ordering the biggest single US troop buildup (over 30,000 personnel) in the history of our military involvement in Afghanistan, bringing our total troop commitment to over 100,000 servicemen and women there. I wonder if he'll even attempt to coherently explain why. Current Mood: cynical |

Extremely touched
Generally I don't put much energy into other people's opinions about me on this and other social networking sites, but I was extremely touched by the recent spontaneous and unsolicited praise from my longtime personal friend harpiegirl4 who possesses towering artistic talents of her own, as well as being one of the most genuine and genuinely spiritual people I've ever met. She is a bulwark of real grace in a world of petty fakes and posers. In light of these qualifications, her praise as well as her years of continual and faithful friendship is and are sharply and especially appreciated. Her current projects include composing and producing soundscapes for gamers: http://www.sonic-legends.com/I would certainly urge gamemasters, gamers or anyone who appreciates the vitalizing component of specifically-crafted music to enhance the gaming experience to visit her website.
